SPECIAL TOPIC: AT TWILIGHT

This is literally "the space between the two evenings" (BDB 107 and BDB 787, i.e., Exod. 16:12; 29:39,41; 30:8; Lev. 23:5; Num. 9:3,5,11,35; 28:4,8). Some say this refers to

  1. late afternoon (Talmud)
  2. the time between sunset and the appearance of the first star (Samaritans)
  3. Remember, twilight is the beginning of a new Jewish day (i.e., Gen. 1:5,8, etc.).
  4. the length of time varies with the seasons and latitude

It is used in the Wisdom Literature in a figurative sense, but usually it is literal. It must refer to enough time for a large number of animals to be prepared for ritual purposes.
